"These Are Our Journeys"

Torah is the foundation of our experience as Jews--- it serves as a guide for our personal and collective journeys through time and space.
Now, upon entering the sanctuary of Temple Emanuel, is seen an Open Torah scroll across the northern wall.
It contains a visual story of our people while carrying the eye forward to the bima and towards the Holy Land in the East.

This was our Journey...

It all began in the Spring of 2005 with a request to help an established congregation replace old and drafty window frames, financed by bringing stained glass into the mix.

Ed Ruzinsky, a committed synagogue leader, contacted Mark Liebowitz & Wilmark Studios because of their experience in all aspects of a project of this scope-- replacing old window frames, supplying insulated exterior glass, in addition to stained glass design, fabrication and installation.

The project would engage many members of Temple Emanuel of Pascack Valley, in Woodcliff Lake, NJ, allowing for both large and small donor contributions.  Maintaining a view of the outside garden was an identified concern for the synagogue members.

Mark called upon a new friend, accomplished Judaic artist Nancy Katz, to meet the enthusiastic and hardworking newly formed ‘stained glass committee.’

How do you make a stained glass window?  According to Nancy, you acknowledge the context of the finished work and, most importantly, you listen to the needs and desires of the congregation.

Nancy heard the committee’s requests and then incorporated them into her artistic vision.  Together, she and Mark then told a colorful story of the Journey of the Jewish People--- collective and individual--- in glass.

The windows were installed in the Summer of 2008.  Nancy and Mark were married in the Summer of 2009.
